When you attend any group event like networking, business seminar, or professional workshop, you meet many people. A few months ago, I was on a group Zoom meeting, and as with any group event, the types of people you meet are diverse, but there is always one person who tends to stand out from the rest. A person who seems to be larger than life, and you gravitate towards them to find out more. This exact thing happened to me, and I had the privilege to meet and learn more about this week’s guest. To say he is a dynamic individual is an understatement.

This week’s guest is the Owner of Readily Random Media, LLC, a podcast host, a veteran of the corporate world, and if you want to learn how to get a good start in podcasting, check out his instructional class on Udemy, 1+1=Podcast: How to start a podcast the simple way. If you already have a podcast, check out his brand new tool to help you get it going faster, Podcast Boost. I enjoyed our interview together and am honored to be a guest on his show next week. Listen or watch this week’s podcast with Larry Roberts and check out the action items afterward.

Action Items:

Through decades of being in the corporate world and now being out on his own, Larry Roberts shares his experiences to help you get a good start:

Take Action.

One of my mentors would tell me often, “don’t tell me what you are going to do; show me what you have done.” Larry talks about preparing for each day, visualizing, and then taking action to get it done. So many of us have ideas and goals but fail to achieve them for one reason. We fail to take action. Furthermore, we fail to take action daily. If you want to achieve change in anything; career, life, or even financially, you need to:

  1. commit to achieving that change daily.
  2. Make a plan, and execute it.
  3. Never wait for tomorrow, do it today.

Confront Your Challenges.

The difference between success and failure is simple: Success is facing your challenges to overcome them no matter how many times you fail. Failure is running from or attempting to avoid the obstacles in our way of achieving what we want or desire. If you want to change anything in your life, there will be things you do not like that you will have to face. Face those things and learn from them when you fail. The outcome may not always be what you expect, but if you put in the effort, you will be able to move on from that challenge with new insight and knowledge to arm yourself with to overcome the next thing. Pick something you have been avoiding that has held you back from your happiness and confront it today. Learn from the result and do it again if you did not achieve a result of your liking.

Be Open-Minded and Flexible.

Our best plans do not always turn out the way we want. In life, it often that a well-thought-out plan hits a bump in the road. When our plans hit a bump in the road, we need to be open-minded to other’s input and flexible to adapt our strategy in the face of a challenge. This mindset needs to be reciprocal as well. Be willing to help others when they face a challenge. Think about a friend, peer, or family member who may be facing a difficult time. Talk to them today, keep an open mind, and see how you can lend a hand.

Conclusion:

Being larger than life does not always mean being the loudest or most disruptive person in the crowd. I feel it means that you can overcome anything that life throws in your way. You can literally and figuratively be larger than whatever stands in the way of your life proceeding the way you want it. Stay the course, ask for assistance, and be flexible, and you will be on your way to getting a good start.
